A Flair for the Dramatics

As someone who participated in theatre throughout high school, I am always looking to see what shows are coming to the Milwaukee area. Whether you love theatre or not, I think it’s important that everyone see a show at least once in their lifetime. So why not take advantage of all the opportunities to see a musical or play in Milwaukee? Theatre is so much more than entertainment-it’s a gateway to a whole new world (Aladdin anyone?). The point of theatre goes far beyond remembering your lines and hitting the right note-productions address real life issues we all face at some time or another. So, my advice to you? Check out what’s happening in the theatre world in Milwaukee during February. There are a lot of great shows coming our way—go check them out and expose yourself to something new!

Here’s a schedule of some of the shows playing in February, both at Marquette and in Milwaukee…

In October 1998 Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. Weeks later, Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project visited Laramie. Over the course of the next year they conducted interviews with people of the town and from this wrote The Laramie Project, a play chronicling the town in the year after the murder. The Laramie Project is a breathtaking theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink, and the heights of compassion of which we are also capable.
