Sweet Sixteen

Our Golden Eagles shocked everyone with their 66-62 upset over Syracuse last night. As the game clock ran down, you could hear the screams of nervousness and excitement resonating throughout the residence halls.  I think I speak for all of Marquette’s campus when I say it was the perfect way to end spring break. As I was walking through campus this morning, there was a definite feeling of excitement in the air thanks to last night’s victory. Everyone here has one thing on his or her mind…FRIDAY! And no, I don’t mean that song by Rebecca Black, I mean game day for Marquette!

Looking ahead to Friday, Marquette will have to come out ready to play against UNC. It’ll be a tough match-up, but if they could upset #2 Syracuse, why can’t they upset #2 UNC? Our offense has proved time and time again that they can win a game, but our defense will have to be on top of its game against UNC’s star forwards Zeller, Henson, and Barnes. Luckily for Marquette, UNC’s defense isn’t the best either, and struggles to contain outside shooters, which Marquette has plenty of.

Looking for a place to catch the game this Friday? There are several great restaurants in the Marquette and Milwaukee area with plenty of TVs to catch all the NCAA action. If you want somewhere close to campus, head on over to the Union Sports Annex, located right on Wells and 16th. They have a great menu and personal TVs in all their booths, so you won’t miss a single second of the game. The Annex is a great choice to catch the game considering they are right here on our campus! There’s bound to be a sea of gold there on Friday night. Another great place with a relaxed atmosphere is Buffalo Wild Wings, located on Water Street. Their wings are great, and with several TVs visible from every table, you can keep track of all the scores. One of my favorite places to go is Riverfront Pizzeria Bar and Grill, located on East Erie Street in the 3rd Ward. Their menu offers a wide variety of options, including their delicious pizzas and grilled-to-perfection paninis. Finally, Major Goolsby’s, located on Kilbourn Ave across from the Bradley Center, is a hot spot in the city for Marquette fans. These are just a few of the many different places in Milwaukee that will be showing the game, so venture out into the city and see everything it has to offer!
